Committees
The various committees in the association assist and report to the Board of Directors. In general, the purpose of the committees is to promote the union sheet metal industry, provide service and education to our members, and to enhance the labor / management relationship.
Below you will find an abbreviated overview of existing and proposed committees.
Golf Committee
Meets once a quarter and weekly the month prior to the event for about an hour. 2 hours closer to the event. Decides the course, pricing, prizes, food, and day of the event activities. Click here to see the committee members.
Trade Show Committee
Meets once a quarter and weekly the month prior to the event for about an hour. Decides venue, vendors, booth locations, pricing, offerings, and day of the event activities. Click here to see the committee members.
Social Committee
Meets twice per year for about an hour. Decided venues, dates and cost for social events. Click here to see the committee members.
Labor Committee
Meets once a quarter and during contract year once a month. Meetings last about 2 hours. During contract year as frequently as necessary. Decides labor issues including contract items, wages, any problems contractors have with the union partners. Only contractors on this no associate members. Click here to see the committee members.
LJAB
Meets as needed when grievances are filed. Decides along with the union if grievance is justified or not. Decides penalty. If deadlock goes to the national LJAB board. Click here to see the committee members.
Pension/Welfare
Meets 6 times a year for 4 to 5 hours. Committee of 3 contractors and 3 union members to oversee the pension plan, and the welfare plan. Make sure we are well funded and in the right investments. There are about 14 other people in the meeting consisting of lawyers, financial advisors, actuaries, and fund administrators from the union office. Click here to see the committee members.
JATC
Meets once a month after 3:00 for about 3 hours. (3) contractors, (3) union members, decide curriculum for apprentices, apprentice raises, apprentice problems, and budgets for both the school and paying of students. Click here to see the committee members.
Investment Committee
Meets once a quarter for about an hour. Discusses current returns, investments, future goals, and new investments. Click here to see the committee members.
Budget Committee
Meets once a year usually in January for about 2 hours. Sets the SMACNA and Metal industry fund (MIF) budgets based off of man hours. Click here to see the committee members.
Programs/Trainings Committee
Meets once a quarter for no more than 2 hours. Decides what training is available and what contractors are needing. Click here to see the committee members.
CCE
Council of Construction Employers- forum to discuss local labor issues with other like trades. 1 hour monthly. Click here to see the committee members.
SLCC
St. Louis Construction Council. Monthly meeting with union reps and management reps in like trades to discuss local construction issues. 1 hour monthly. Click here to see the committee members.
Legislative
Discuss current legislative issues, set lobbyist directives, discuss SMACNA St. Louis direct involvement and future legislative issues. 1-2 hours bi-weekly/monthly/as needed. Click here to see the committee members.
401k
Meets 6 times a year for about 3 hours. (3) contractors, (3) union members, financial consultants, lawyers, and union fund office managers decide where to put our and the members money to get maximum returns. Click here to see the committee members.
Architecture Committee
New committee tasked with discussing the architectural market, future developments, and setting marketing objectives and strategies to increase market share. 1 hourly monthly. Click here to see the committee members.
Women In Construction Committee
Meets 2-4 times per year. Decides programing and charity outreach events for members. Click here to see the committee members.
SMART - Residential/Service
Meets quarterly for about 2 hours. Contractors and union deciding what the budget will be, advertising, an dollars to promote the SMART residential program.
