Legislative Efforts
At the local and state level, SMACNA St. Louis plays a critical role in forming legislation impacting the sheet metal industry and its community of workers.
We represent our member contractors’ best interest, serving as their eyes, ears and voice in Missouri legislature. SMACNA St. Louis also mobilizes the workforce when immediate grassroots action is needed.
The voice of our members is also heard on the federal level through the national SMACNA organization which is based in the Washington, D.C. area. SMACNA St. Louis works closely with national SMACNA to provide timely updates on federal laws that impact its members.
SMACNA St. Louis also strategically partners with other local labor unions and trade organizations on key Missouri legislation:
-
Right-to-Work – SMACNA St. Louis is working diligently to prevent the passage of “Right-to-Work” which would outlaw employment contracts that make union dues or fees a condition of employment. Read more here.
-
Prevailing Wage – SMACNA St. Louis collaborated with additional labor unions to prevent the repeal of Prevailing Wage Law in Missouri, which establishes a minimum wage paid to workers on public works construction projects. Read more here.
